Trendrr

Twitter is on another acquisition spree. After buying We Are Hunted earlier in the year to power its #music app, Twitter has snapped up Trendrr, a social tracking TV service. It is not clear yet if this acquisition will mean Twitter winds down its own in-house analytics. AllThingsDigital suggests that the move by Twitter to buy Trendrr was a preemptive strike against Facebook scooping it up – all the more poignant given that a recent paid Trendrr study found that Facebook had five times as much discussion about TV than Twitter. The company is moving to become preeminent in this space having already bought social analytics company Bluefin Labs. In related news, Twitter has updated how users can read conversations (so full conversations rather than individual @ replies). It has also added a ‘report abuse’ button following the controversy when a number of prominent women were subjected to death and rape threats on the service.
