The 4G market in the UK has so far been dominated by EE since October last year but now O2 and Vodafone are rolling put their own 4G networks – albeit on an initially limited capacity in three cities. While O2’s offering will be available in London, Leeds and Bradford, Vodafone’s 4G will only be in London for now. It is suggested that the UK will not have widespread 4G coverage until the end of 2015 which would put it far behind other leading 4G markets such as Japan, South Korea and Australia. The record industry, in particular the BPI, has been a cheerleader for the mass availability of 4G, believing it will play a decisive role in the delivery of music content to mobile devices.
