The Survey Bay is the result of a collaboration between The Pirate Bay and the Cybernorms Group at Lund University in Sweden, tracking the “habits and norms” of 75,000 filesharers. It is an interactive and searchable website that charts what filesharers think about certain topics. TechDirt accepts that the data “has some level of bias” to it but suggests the findings are more nuanced than just users looking to get as much free content as they can. While the results may make uncomfortable reading for some (especially in the copyright industries), it is still an interesting window, albeit a slightly distorted one, into the multiple reasons why people use P2P and torrent sites.
