Yesterday, we wrote about Google’s production of a YouTube ‘mini-doc’ about The Clash, to promote the release of remastered versions of the band’s first five studio albums. That’s not the only element of Sony’s campaign around the re-releases though. This week also saw the launch of This Is Radio Clash, a partnership with Spotify that promises “an audio-visual tour of the career of The Clash, curated by the band themselves”. What that means is a collection of Spotify playlists – promoted on the streaming service’s homepage as well as on The Clash’s own website – mixing interviews with the surviving band members with the songs that inspired them. So far, two chapters have been released: I Wanna Riot (focusing on the birth of punk) and The Reggae Connection (focusing on how reggae influenced the band). Six more chapters are coming soon, including Coming To America, Pioneering Rap Music and Celluloid Heroes.
