Nope, we’re not having you on. Rapper 2 Chainz really has launched his own cookery app, with social photography elements thrown in for good measure.
The free iPhone app is called 2 Chainz MealTime, and was released on Apple’s App Store tonight promising “fan sourced recipes at your fingertips”. The App Store listing explains further:
“Users can add cool frames and stickers on their food photos. Users can also share their original or remixed community curated featured dishes.”
And yes, you’re probably wondering whether this is an entirely unofficial app taking 2 Chainz’s name in vain. But the publisher is Universal Music Group, so it’s the real deal – and thus one of the most surprising branded artist apps we’ve seen since the App Store’s launch in 2008.
On a serious note, though, 2 Chainz may be onto a winner with the stickers thing: Snoop Dogg was making $30k a week from his Snoopify app earlier this year.
The MealTime app ties in with 2 Chainz’s new album, of course. He’s already announced plans to give away a digital cookbook to fans who buy the deluxe edition of ‘B.O.A.T.S. II’.
