Red-Bull-Space-Jump

Streaming music service Rdio has bagged a new exclusive deal, but it’s not for music. Instead, the company has teamed up with Red Bull Media House to premiere the documentary film based on last year’s Red Bull Stratos mission, when Felix Baumgartner leapt from the stratosphere and parachuted down to earth. Rdio has built a microsite to host the film, which it will stream for free for three months from 14 October, with a separate exclusive on one of the songs from its soundtrack: ‘Oh Boy’ by Portugal The Man. It’s a surprising partnership, not least because Rdio’s sister service Vdio – which specialises in online video – doesn’t appear to be involved. It’s the first signs of Rdio being associated with content beyond music – something an increasing number of people (including Rdio execs) are predicting could see Rdio and Vdio bundled together at some stage.
