When we noticed Songkick-powered gig listings appearing in a bar on artists’ Spotify profiles in late July, we were told that it was an experiment. It looks like it was successful enough to be made official, as Songkick announced the feature publicly on its blog yesterday. “We’re beyond excited to say that Songkick tour dates are now displaying on Spotify artist pages – so it’s easier than ever to find out if your favorite artists are on tour,” explained the company. Artist profiles feature an ‘On Tour’ bar which shows their “upcoming concerts in your country”. When clicked on, it takes people through to the artist’s page within Songkick’s Spotify app, and then out to its website if they want to buy tickets. Still a few steps then – buying tickets entirely within an artist’s profile on Spotify may be where this is all heading – but it’s a sign of Spotify’s determination to prove that it can make money for artists in more ways than simply per-stream payouts.
