“Check out my single ‘ONE TIME’ on my myspace and spread the word for me. Thanks,” tweeted Justin Bieber four years ago, in the days when the prospect of this fresh-faced singer having 44m followers on Twitter would have seemed laughable. Why are we going back in time? Because social analytics service Topsy is letting us. Yesterday, it announced that its website now offers “the entire history of public tweets on Twitter”, searchable and sortable. Hence the ability to go back to Bieber’s first tweets, when Myspace was his primary social profile. There are some useful aspects for digital marketing here, of course, but for now we’re having fun with the archives. First mention of Spotify? That would be then-employee Andreas Ehn’s “Listening to Spotify” tweet seven years ago (followed quickly by “Code+beer+pizza @Spotify” for good measure). Also fun: tweets from Korea a year ago saying things like “Psy’s comeback next week ~ wonder what new ‘Gangnam style’ he will have”. Enjoy.
