Big tech brands launching live music tours isn’t new, but Samsung’s spin on the idea is interesting. Its tour will be called Galaxy Studio Live, and it’ll take place around the UK with individual gigs from artists including Biffy Clyro, Laura Mvula, Bullet for my Valentine and Bastille. But the key ingredient is an app, Samsung Smart Ticket, which will run on Android and iOS devices. The theory: people buy tickets using the app, and then get exclusive content in the run-up to the concerts: news, photos, videos, downloads and messages from the artists. During the gigs, the apps will work as part of the light show due to a partnership between Samsung and UK startup Makelight. And the app will also help fans share photos and tweets, including on big screens in the venues, while offering contactless payments in the venues using NFC technology. It’s one of the more interesting e-ticketing experiments we’ve seen.
