The seventh annual edition of the Midemlab startup contest is open for entries, with a judging panel announced yesterday for the competition, which culminates in Cannes next January. Vivendi and Pepsi are on board as sponsors, while judges include Pandora’s Heidi Browning, WMG’s Stephen Bryan, Public Enemy’s Chuck D, Samsung’s Daren Tsui and other luminaries from the tech and investment worlds. Disclosure: Music Ally is one of two companies (Bluenove in France is the other) selecting the 30 finalists for the contest. With the likes of SoundCloud, Songkick, BandPage and The Echo Nest all having won in previous years, Midemlab is aiming to pick a few more winners this time round from its three categories: music discovery, recommendation and creation; marketing & social engagement; and direct-to-consumer sales and content monetisation.
