There are lots of full albums on YouTube, most of which have been uploaded without the artist or label’s permission. But here’s an interesting use of YouTube for a full-album stream that’s official: the new Arcade Fire album. ‘Reflektor has been made available in full as a single 85-minute YouTube video, accompanied by footage from 1959 film Black Orpheus with song lyrics overlaid on top. It’s an interesting strategy, and one that’s tied to sales of the album with prominent links to buy it from iTunes, Amazon or Arcade Fire’s own online store. We’ll be interested to see if the YouTube video is taken down once the album actually goes on sale next Monday – and also to see if it debuts day-and-date on streaming services like Spotify too.
