We’ve already reported on Miley Cyrus’ storming September on YouTube, when her channel generated 270.1m views (Bulletin, 12-Oct-13). Now it’s emerged that she was the top musician in terms of new subscribers on YouTube that month too. Tubefilter is publishing a new monthly chart based on subscriber counts, and Miley comes in fourth with just under 1.1m new subscribers in September, taking her total to early 3.1m. Music makes a strong showing in the chart, with Vevo having 20 of the top 100 channels, with Katy Perry (more than 1m new subscribers), Avicii (621k) and Eminem (552k) all riding high in the rankings. YouTube has been shifting its emphasis away from views and towards subscribers as a key metric for some time now, so the chart is worth poring over to see who’s capitalising.
