There are millions of musicians in the world, and hundreds of online platforms promising to help them find an audience. More than Major is the latest, announcing ambitious plans yesterday to help artists raise awareness of their music. “During my experiences as promoter and band manager I found it frustrating that there wasn’t any tool which would help me to directly present a certain act to potential fans, get their feedback and be able to assess if there is an interested audience for that artist or not, writes boss Igor Guizzardi in a blog post outlining his company’s plans. “We randomly choose an act which gets presented to a user. This music lover gives a qualitative feedback and influences in this way the probability for that artist to be shown to other users,” he writes. Social features will also be included so people can recommend their favourite discoveries to friends. It’s an attempt to turn fans into online A&Rs, in other words.
