There’s been a bit of a rumpus in recent weeks around a music video called ‘Chinese Food’, produced by Ark Music Factory, the company behind Rebecca Black’s ‘Friday’. The ode to, yes, chinese food has been accused of being racist, yet the controversy has seemingly only fuelled its popularity. Billboard reports that the track charted at number 29 in its latest Hot 100 rankings, based on just 1,000 sales but nearly 5m US streams last week on YouTube. It’s not been played on the radio either, so this is very much a YouTube hit still – just one big enough to chart without sales. Its appearance inside the Top 30 follows the recent success of Ylvis’ equally-viral ‘The Fox’, which *did* manage to sell lots of downloads as well as clock up YouTube streams.
