Justin Bieber has become a notable investor in tech startups over the past couple of years, including Spotify and Viddy. His latest investment is part of a $1.1m seed round for a “teen-focused social network” called Shots of Me. It’ll be released as an iPhone app later this week, and is the work of social games firm RockLive. “He’s been very involved in our products, helping us test things and providing feedback,” says its CEO John Shahidi of Bieber. “When we told him that we were looking to create a social network for teens that really addresses what they aren’t getting on other networks, and which tries to deal with things like cyber-bullying, his eyes just lit up.” Having Bieber on board *should* be a promotional boon for Shots of Me, but it’s not a guarantee of success. Another of Bieber’s investments was social ratings app Stamped, which topped the App Store charts after a Justin tweet, but then fell away and was later bought by Yahoo.
