This makes them the most popular two Twitter accounts, with former leader Lady Gaga not too far behind with her 40.4m followers on the service. Bieber had overtaken Gaga in January 2013, three years after she’d become the most popular Twitter account. It’s the latest reminder of music’s importance on Twitter, despite the struggles of its Twitter #Music app. Musicians account for four of the top five accounts, with Taylor Swift taking fifth place with 36.2m followers, and only the President of the United States himself, Barack Obama, breaking things up with his 39.3m followers.
