piracy

One to file in Irony Corner as users of a filesharing site are “up in arms” as it was revealed to be a “honeypot” that was collecting data on users, websites and hosters. This all came out when anti-piracy company Nuke Piracy acquired UploaderTalk. “That’s right – the biggest swerve ever,” said UploaderTalk’s mysterious operator – known only as WDF – in a statement on the site. “I, WDF, work for the anti-piracy people!” WDF set up the site last year after previously being involved with WJunction, another filesharing site and boasted of the scam: “I collected info on file hosts, web hosts, websites. I suckered sh*tloads of you […] I work for Nuke Piracy now, this is very bad for anyone profiting from piracy.” It is not clear what Nuke Piracy will do with the data is has collected but it is suggested this will go into informing its future anti-piracy strategies.
