HuffPost, the video arm of Huffington Post, has launched HuffPost Live Music to promote new and emerging acts. Pageants will be the first of eight acts to feature over the next three months and Citi is sponsoring the whole channel. It is being reported that the company initially covered Q&As with acts because clearing the rights to use music was proving onerous. It’s not reported how the licensing deadlock was broken by the presence of a major sponsor will certainly have helped. This comes after the likes of Vevo’s Life platform and Spotify’s new Spotlight feature, although they have been criticised for focusing on acts that are already well on their way to success so it will be interesting to see just how “emerging” HuffPost’s emerging acts are following the launch with Pageants.
