Two years ago, we were impressed by an iPhone music game called Say What?!, a lyrics-based title by the former developers of console game DJ Hero (Bulletin, 10-Aug-11). It never quite took off. Now its developer 8linQ has returned with a new app: CTRL Music. It’s quite different: a “fun music remixing app” featuring tunes from Pitbull, Ke$ha, Avicii, PSY, David Guetta, Jessie J and other high-profile artists. Essentially, users get to mess around with songs by using more than 20 DJ effects and synths with a mixture of touch and tilt controls. Also interesting: they can do this with music stored in their own iTunes library, or by streaming it from SoundCloud. “Effects are always perfectly in time with the music and Synths are always in key – you can’t go wrong,” promises the App Store listing. CTRL Music, which costs £2.49 for iPhone and iPad, also works with the Audiobus and Inter-App Audio technologies to squirt audio through to other iOS music creation apps. It’s definitely one to watch.
