Amsterdam’s Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra (RCO) launched its RCO Editions iPad magazine in September, aiming to help people watch performances while finding out more about the works performed. It’s been downloaded more than 15,000 times since then, and now there’s a companion version for iPhones. RCO Editions iPhone will offer recordings of individual performances for subscribers, who pay €4.49 for each one, or can subscribe for €6.99 a month for access to all. The app also offers the RCO Radio service for free, with subscribers getting higher-quality audio. It’s one of the better classical music apps we’ve seen, and one that may find fans (and paying subscribers) well beyond the RCO’s homeland.
