Facebook isn’t too keen on a crowdfunding site called FaceBusks, which helps buskers raise money for musical projects, while also donating to charity. The social network’s legal team have contacted the company with a stern letter after FaceBusks tried to register its name as a trademark. Facebook claimed it was “obvious that the marks are similar and that relevant consumers may establish a link between Facebook’s earlier signs”, and while the site’s founders maintain that “we’ve been told by our lawyers there’s no legal standpoint”, they also say they can’t afford to go toe to toe with Facebook in a drawn-out legal case. Cue an online petition asking Facebook to rethink, although with 21 signatures so far, it’ll need a bit more welly behind it.
