Gary Fung’s filesharing site IsoHunt was shut down earlier this year, and as part of the settlement with movie industry body the MPAA, he’s likely to have agreed not to launch anything similar. What to do instead? T-shirts and hoodies. Fung has launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for a new fashion line called Viva 10.23, although there’s a campaigning element to it. “Clothing with funny or political statements alone are not enough. Neither is merchandise sold for fundraisers, or fashion designs that looks stylish but without meaning. We believe in doing all three – creating designs based on statements that are ironic, smart, informative and speak for causes you believe in,” explains the Kickstarter listing. Slogans include ‘Freedom to Share’, ‘Stop Watching Us’ and an IsoHunt tee, with most of the profits set to be donated to “media democracy and consumer rights organizations such as the EFF, Wikimedia and Openmedia.ca”.
