Last year was the 40th anniversary of label Virgin Records, with the final celebration the release of a (free) official iPad app on 29 December. It’s called Virgin Records: 40 Years of Disruptions, and offers digital boxset-style features: sleeve and label art, vintage video performances, track info, sleeve notes and the story of the label’s history. There are also six “triple edition compilations” focusing on different periods and genres from Virgin’s history, with fans able to buy the tracks from Apple’s iTunes Store, or stream them from Spotify. Usually it’s one or the other with this kind of app, so having both is a logical step forward.
