German startup Capsule.fm is one of this year’s  finalists in the D2C sales and content monetisation category, but its iPhone app went live in the App Store over the weekend. Called Capsule.fm – The Early Edition, it’s part alarm clock and part personalised radio station. “Hear the news, weather, trivia and music in a personalised audio stream – that is like an alarm, but unlike anything you’ve heard,” as the App Store listing puts it. “Artificial personalities wake you up so you start your day informed and entertained.” The music is ambient, although we wonder if the company’s participation in the MidemLab contest is part of a push to secure more licensed music for the future. “The Early Edition by Capsule.fm is just the start of our vision of audio streaming for the future,” suggests the App Store listing. It’s a paid app – £1.49 here in the UK.
