rdio-y-shazam

Streaming service Rdio has been pretty tight with discovery app Shazam in the last year, with ad campaigns and the recently-added ability to automatically add people’s Shazam tags to a dedicated playlist on Rdio. Now the partnership is going (more) global, with 29 new countries including France, Spain, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa. That takes the total to 35, including the US and UK, where the companies were already working together. Shazam recently told Music Ally that it remains open to integrations with other streaming music services, but for now Rdio looks like its closest partner. The question is whether this partnership will pay off for the latter company. Last year, Rdio enjoyed a sharp rise up the free iOS app charts for sure, partly fuelled by Shazam and other canny marketing partnerships. But with no public figures on paying subscribers, any conversion rates remain a mystery.
