BitTorrent has published some data on downloads of its official ‘bundles’ with artists and creators last year, revealing that 448 bundles generated 60m downloads in total. Moby’s ‘Innocents’ bundle was downloaded 8.9m times, and was the most popular download of the lot. BitTorrent said that the bundle generated 419k mailing-list signups for Moby, as well as 130k click-throughs to the iTunes store, and 68k remixes created using the bundle’s audio stems. Other musicians high in BitTorrent’s chart include Kaskade (4.1m bundle downloads), Jet Life (4m), Pixies (3.1m) and Alex Day (2.8m). In a sense, it’s quite a brutal chart of interest in artists even when they’re giving something away for free: witness Madonna’s film-based bundle’s 1.2m downloads – a figure matched by Public Enemy’s. Next for BitTorrent: “This year, we’re introducing Bundle pay gates, social gates, artist analytics tools, and more,” writes marketing boss Matt Mason. “Because there is no longer one business model for digital content. There’s a different model for each piece of digital content.”
