“I asked your boss for your number. I never wondered which way it would go. You woke me up from my slumber. Now let me break your work flow. It’s not a lot, but all I wanna do. Is skip town on a weekend with you. There’s still so much to discover. There’s still a lot we don’t know.” This lyrical personal ad on Craigslist has a commercial motivation in mind (although not, hem-hem, the ‘commercial’ motivation that a lot of personal ads on Craigslist have) – it’s Chromeo’s way of unveiling their next album. The subject of their ad, posted in the Minneapolis Missed Connections section of the popular classifieds site, provides the album’s title and release date (“White Women 05-12-14”) complete with artwork and a map reference to the First Avenue nightclub in Minneapolis – famously featured in Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ film. A fun promotional twist rather than a major campaign, but it made us smile.
