In our cover feature, Ed Peto of Outdustry gives us the inside track on digital music’s development in China where huge changes are afoot in terms of how Chinese consumers will not only access music but also what music they will want to have access to. We also look at the major changes that WiMP in Norway is pushing forward in subscription streaming – notably a vast improvement in audio quality (that could drive up total subscription revenues) as well as the addition of video content. Our country profile is the US where downloads have started to sag worryingly and where subscription streaming is not quite able to make up the shortfall just yet. Is the country still so hooked on radio-style listening that on-demand services will really have their work cut out to change such ingrained habits?
