Sonos has made a major hire, poaching Microsoft’s chief product officer of Xbox Marc Whitten for a similar role at the connected hi-fi company. Whitten is a veteran of Microsoft’s gaming division, having joined in 2000 and worked on all three of its Xbox consoles, as well as its Xbox Live online community. As yet, Sonos hasn’t commented on Whitten’s focus as chief product officer there, although Microsoft gave him a rousing send-off. “Marc played a pivotal role in building the Xbox business over the last 14 years and has been a great partner for me personally,” said corporate VP of strategy and marketing Yusuf Mehdi in a statement. Whitten’s news follows the departure of Blair Westlake, corporate VP of media and entertainment at Microsoft, earlier this year.
