Folk-pop duo Us have just been signed by Republic Records, which will be re-releasing their album ‘No Matter Where You Are’. Not a hugely interesting piece of news, you might think, but the twist here is that Michael and Carissa Rae Alvarado’s success has been fuelled by Twitter’s video-sharing app Vine. The pair have attracted 2.5m followers on Vine, mainly for their series of “#6SecondCovers” of popular songs. Vine was a crucial factor in Republic’s decision to sign the band, it seems. “They reached out to us to do a showcase, and we were nervous as all heck, but then they picked our brain on the app as well,” Michael tells Billboard. “They realized it had a lot of power but didn’t know how to use it… They were super-interested in how they could do that for their artists, but it was clear they were interested in hearing about our music and what we were doing.” As entertaining and inventive as the duo have been on Vine, it’ll be their full-length tracks that will have a chance to find an audience now.
