katy perry

Nearly 1m people subscribe to Katy Perry’s YouTube channel in March, with her 937k new subscribers making her the fourth most popular channel on Google’s video service on that metric. Perry was only beaten by gaming channels PewDiePie and VanossGaming (2.2m and 984k respectively) and the official YouTube channel (1.1m) last month. Industry site Tubefilter’s monthly chart shows that other music stars doing well for new subscribers in March included Shakira (eighth with 780k new signups), One Direction (10th with 735k), Eminem (713k) and dance channel Spinnin’ Records (643k). YouTube spent much of 2013 placing more emphasis on subscriber counts as a metric for success on its service, although no music star yet comes close to PewDiePie in terms of total subscribers. He ended February with 24.4m, but has since crossed the 25m milestone. By contrast, Katy Perry ended February with 11.1m subscribers, Shakira 3.1m, One Direction 12.6m and Eminem 11.6m.
