What does it take to overhaul Machinima as the most-watched YouTube channel based on all-time views? For Rihanna, it took just 83 videos. The star’s Vevo-branded channel has just leapt to the top of YouTube’s all-time rankings. Rihanna’s videos have been watched more than 4.8bn times since the channel launched in May 2009, and before you ask, that DOESN’T include her recent collaboration with Shakira, which was hosted on the latter’s channel. Instead, Rihanna has had a run of videos with nine-figure views, topped by the 414.2m count for ‘Diamonds’, which was released last year. Tubefilter does the maths on the channel’s nearly-five year run on YouTube: “About 2,715,116 views per day, 113,129 views per hour, 1,885 views per minute, and 31 views per second… each Rihanna video, on average, receives 58,064,242 views.” Rihanna currently has 13.4m subscribers on YouTube, and in February was the 17th most popular channel with 100.2m monthly views.
