Here’s an approach to SoundCloud promotion that may ruffle some feathers at the streaming company. It’s an iPhone app claiming to be “the best way to discover new music and promote your own music through SoundCloud”. The idea being that you earn virtual coins by listening to songs, liking tracks and following artists, then spend those coins on getting promotion for your own tracks. “Your songs will get plays, likes and your account will get new followers! Start earning coins now!” as the app puts it. Of course, to get significant promotion, users will need to buy extra coins via in-app purchases, from £0.69 for 100 to £34.99 for 30,000. Listening to a song, liking it and following the artist earns five coins, as a comparison, while it costs 25 coins to pay for at least 10 plays of your own track, up to 4,000 coins for 2,500 plays.
