Dr Dre has seemingly confirmed the news that Apple is buying Beats for $3.2bn – albeit through the medium of a rowdy late-night conversation with artist Tyrese Gibson in the studio.
“The first billionaire in hip-hop, right here from the motherfucking west coast,” said Dre, in response to Gibson’s joshing that Forbes will need to rewrite its rich-lists.
We suspect that if the deal does go through, Dre can expect a swift orientation lesson in Apple’s PR strategy, including an introduction to “Apple does not comment on rumours or speculation” as well as “Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans”. Or coastage.
