We’ve seen a few startups tackling the idea of small groups of people sharing music in real-time: for example apps that a group all have installed on their smartphones to synchronise playback of music. Now someone’s trying a similar idea with headphones. That someone is Wearhaus, a company that’s launched a pre-order campaign on its own website for its Wearhaus Arc headphones, hoping to generate at least $75k in orders. The headphones work with a companion app that handles the social listening aspect: ” See what people around you are listening to, join them in real time, or broadcast your own playlist,” explains its website. The app is available for iOS and Android. TechCrunch has a few more details on the company, which is backed by “a few hundred thousand” of seed funding. “We’ve always believed in the power of listening to music together in person, either at a party, splitting earbuds, sitting around a record player, etc,” says co-founder Nelson Zhang.
