Streaming service Rdio is on the global expansion trail again, launching in nine new countries yesterday, taking its total to 60. The new markets include four Asian countries – Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore – and five European territories: Greece, Croatia, Cyprus, Slovakia And Slovenia. CEO Anthony Bay said the launches are accompanied by efforts to sign up as much local catalogue as possible. “We’re thrilled to have been able to expand from two to 60 countries in less than four years, while also pairing this rapid growth with regular catalogue increases reflective of the amazing and distinct music that impacts the culture of each country we serve,” he said in a statement. It’s a reminder of the rapid pace of geographic expansion for the major western streaming services: in that two years, Spotify has gone from 13 to 56 countries, while Deezer has gone from 49 to 180.
