Rapper 50 Cent was taken to court by headphone company Sleek which claimed he misappropriated trade secrets and breached his fiduciary duty by stealing its designs. 50 Cent has apparently invested $1m in the company to develop headphones for him but he eventually launched his own line with another company. Sleek claimed that the resulting headphones (Sync By 50) were “basically the same design, mechanically” as their own and took him to court. Sleek added that his team stole the email addresses of almost 4,000 potential customers, citing an email from 50’s business manager (“[Sleek] is onto us, LOL”) in evidence. In total (damages and legal fees), he will have to pay out just over $16m (which is around 32m 50 cent coins, fact fans).
