Live crowdfunding platform Crowdtilt has a new feather in its cap: an apparent promise by Foo Fighters to play a gig in frontman Dave Grohl’s home state of Virginia after fans in Richmond committed $70k in ticket pre-orders. “The Foo Fighters haven’t rocked Richmond, VA in more than 15 years. So to convince them to come back, we’re selling 1400 tix to a Foo Fighters show that doesn’t exist (yet). AND IT’S WORKING!” explained the Crowdtilt campaign. And so it was. “well, well, well,” tweeted the band’s official account this week. “See ya soon…let’s have a good time.” The actual date of the concert hasn’t yet been confirmed, but it’s a high-profile success for Crowdtilt, and for gig crowdfunding more generally – an area where Songkick’s Detour platform is also aiming to connect fans with bands live.
