We know that a lot of the viewing of young stars on multi-channel YouTube networks happens on mobile devices. British MCN PopShack is hoping to take advantage with its new iPhone app, released yesterday in the App Store. “The PopShack app is THE way to get closer to awesome pop talent from our network and PopShackTV including Tich, Loveable Rogues, Daniel J, Brad Kavanagh, Dominic Klien, Ollie Sloan, Laura Zocca, Matt DeFrietas, Ebony Day, Hannah Witton and many many more,” explained its App Store listing. The app will offer daily videos, ticket offers, merchandise, live streams, news and meet-and-greet opportunities. A visit to its website reveals the company’s strategy: it signs up new artists (“usually aged 12-18”), helps them improve the quality of their recordings and videos, as well as picking a blend of covers and original material. The company is also holding a gig next month at the Indigo2 venue in London, with its own stars supporting boy band Union J. With more than 426,000 YouTube subscribers, Daniel J looks like PopShack’s biggest star so far: he’s also got a new ‘Alien Meerkats’ app available for iPhone and Android.
