UK-based music startup Bloom.fm made headlines yesterday with its claim that Apple is barring it from advertising to iOS owners using the company’s iAd mobile advertising network. “Apple just banned our ads because we’re ‘a competitive service to iTunes Radio and it is against Apple policy’ We must be big time now,” tweeted Bloom.fm’s official account. “They told us we are a competitive service to iTunes radio, despite the fact we are UK-only and iRadio has not launched here,” spokesperson John Clark elaborated to The Register. ” The company had been spending nearly £2,000 a month on iAds. The news comes after speculation that Apple is preparing to launch iTunes Radio in the UK, at which point it *would* be competing with Bloom.fm. The startup is certainly within its rights to publicly point out the ban, although whether poking the owner of one of the two platforms its service runs on (Android is the other) will likely only become clear next time Bloom.fm submits an update to its iOS app.
