Live music discovery service Bandsintown has announced its latest milestone: 10m registered users. “That’s enough seats to sell out Madison Square Garden over 500 times,” as the company puts it in a celebratory blog post. “That’s enough miles to go around the Earth over 400 times.” And so on. An infographic gives a bit more info: Bandsintown has gone from 1.5m registered users in March 2012 to 3.2m by September 2012, just under 5m in March 2013, 7.3m in September 2013 and 10m now. That suggests the company is adding just under 450,000 new users a month at the moment. It’s also pretty mainstream judging by its list of the most-tracked artists – those who fans have signed up to get concert alerts for in the greatest numbers. Eminem, Linkin Park, Katy Perry, Coldplay, Adele, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Metallica and Bruno Mars. The news follows Bandsintown’s deal with Google to have its gig listings shown in search results (Bulletin, 14-Mar-14). One strange thing: the new infographic says Bandsintown had 1.5m registered users in March 2012, yet in February that year the company was claiming “3 million monthly active users”. Presumably lots of them weren’t registered…
