Earlier this year, we wrote about rumours that Wi-Fi network Fon was preparing to launch a streaming music gadget called Gramofon (Bulletin, 20-March-14). Well, those rumours were correct: the company has launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for its ‘modern cloud jukebox’ this morning. “Gramofon streams cloud music to your sound system. A modern jukebox: smartphones are the remotes + WiFi brings everyone together,” explains its pitch, which notes that Fon has been working on the device for more than a year. “Connect your Gramofon to the sound system or speakers of your choice. Connect Gramofon to the Internet via ethernet or on your current WiFi.  Connect any Android or iOS phone to the Gramofon’s WiFi signal. Stream your favorite playlist from Spotify or listen to the free radio service powered by WahWah, all directly through the cloud,” explains the pitch. Fon has locked its first production run to 6,500 units, to ship in July. Pledges as little as $30 will secure one of them IF Fon can hits its $250k target.
