Here’s a partnership we wouldn’t have predicted: YouTube and satellite radio firm SiriusXM. YouTube is putting its name to a new weekly radio show to be broadcast on the Sirius XM Hits 1 station in the US. The YouTube 15 will spotlight music breaking through on Google’s video service, complete with a YouTuber – Jenna Marbles – hosting it. The new show will debut on 11 July, with the pair giving examples of the kind of artists and songs that would make the cut if it was being broadcast this week: Meghan Trainor’s ‘All About That Bass’, Mayra Veronica’s ‘Mama Yo!’ and 5 Seconds of Summer’s cover of Green Day’s ‘American Idiot’. There will also be a SiriusXM-branded YouTube playlist of the 15 songs featured every week. It’s the latest sign of YouTube’s desire to shout more about breaking songs on its network, as it gears up for the launch of its controversial (to many indie labels, anyway) music subscription service.
