British collecting society PRS for Music has released its first iPhone app: a free download from Apple’s App Store, although naturally it requires a registered account to be used by a songwriter. “The most popular PRS for Music tools are now at your finger tips. Whether you are working in the studio or en route to a gig, our new app will help you access important PRS for Music information anytime, anywhere,” claims its App Store listing. “Members can check distribution information including details of distribution dates and amounts. Check your registered works on our database and find detailed works information for millions of PRS for Music’s musical works. You can search by writer, publisher and artist, work number, CAE name and number.” PRS isn’t the first society to launch its own app for members though: both BMI and ASCAP have them in the US, for example.
