Last June, Public Enemy launched a BitTorrent bundle based around their ‘Get Up Stand Up’ single, including audio stems so anyone could remix it and upload the results for the group to hear. Now there are some stats for the promotion: more than 1m bundles were downloaded, and 100 new tracks were created. Public Enemy have now chosen five of them to release a five-track EP on iTunes, which is being sold for £3.95, or as individual tracks for £0.79 each. BitTorrent also claims that Public Enemy benefited in other ways, with 91,000 “iTunes album impressions” (i.e. fans clicking through to the band’s last album on iTunes from the BitTorrent bundle) created during the original campaign.
