SoundCloud has a new director of business development for its platform: Alexis Giles. She’ll be based in San Francisco working on various partnerships and tech deals for the company, joining from dance-music video site Mox. Giles’ previous experience is also very relevant to the way SoundCloud is evolving in 2014: she was in charge of YouTube’s commercial legal team in Europe, striking deals with music and TV companies according to Billboard. This, at a time when SoundCloud is working on its first attempts at making money through ads and brand partnerships – as CTO Eric Wahlforss told Music Ally last week – and mulling how best to start paying labels and publishers for streams of their works on SoundCloud.
