Streaming service Rdio has inked its latest partnership to boost distribution outside its native US. This time it’s media firm Shaw Communications in Canada, in a deal encompassing marketing and content, as well as a financial investment from Shaw, which is part telco and part television company. “Canada is Rdio’s second largest market and is a huge priority for us,” said Rdio CEO Anthony Bay as the deal was announced. “Rdio is the best available digital streaming music experience and a great complement to our leading broadband and Shaw Go WiFi services,” reciprocated Shaw Communications boss Brad Shaw. It’s part of an emerging strategy for Rdio to choose a big media partner in other countries, with Grupo Bandeirantes in Brazil (its third biggest market) announced earlier this month.
