The London Symphony Orchestra runs its own label, LSO Live, which sells downloads and CDs of performances. Now it also has an iPad app, which went live on Apple’s App Store over the weekend. Called LSO Live, it’s a free download that promises to help fans “explore the complete catalogue of the award winning LSO Live label”, including playing any recordings already owned on the device or purchased through iTunes. Other albums are offered in preview form. The app functions as interactive liner notes, with artwork, photos, extra videos and information about each recording, its conductor and musicians. The app can also create playlists culled from all the albums, and it supports Apple’s AirPlay technology to watch or listen on a nearby TV screen or hi-fi (if they’re compatible). To persuade people to give the app a try, the LSO is giving away a free Best Of collection within it.
