It’s an interesting month in the world of YouTube and MCNs thanks to the Digital Content Newfronts – a series of events held in New York to introduce new online-video content to brands and their agencies. Vevo was the latest to present yesterday, and its event included a big expansion of its original shows. The company presented seven shows during its Newfront, some of which are already airing. Stylized and Get The Look are both fashion-focused, exploring musicians’ style and explaining how fans can crib it; Taste of Music is a cookery show where a chef creates a dish inspired by a music video, and is produced by Endemol; Guess the Video is a street-based quiz show where people have to guess a video from a few seconds to win $100; Judge This! asks YouTube stars to hold forth on pop culture topics (“Should Justin Bieber go to college? Should One Direction add a girl?”); AKA animates the origin stories of artists’ names; and Day Off With… explores artists’ interests outside music. Cooking, fashion, celebs… it looks like a canny strategy to expand Vevo’s music focus into even more brand-friendly waters.
