
Next week, it’ll be curtains for the old SoundCloud, as all users are shifted over to the new version of its website – well, ‘new’ in that it launched in December 2012. Users have been able to switch back to the classic design since then, but now that option is being removed. “The complexities of keeping two SoundCloud websites up and communicating with each other at a global scale has been extremely difficult, causing increased outages on both sites and slowed the platform as a whole,” explains an email to users. It’s a very polite email, and no wonder: as with Facebook, Twitter and other big web services, there was a public kerfuffle when the new design was first launched, with users complaining about it. Nearly a year and a half on, any protests are likely to be muted. Or, at least, so you’d hope…
